About Dr. Cocores

James Cocores, M.D., is a nutritional neuropsychiatrist who uses cognitive and behavioral psychotherapy, medical principles, and exercise and nutritional counseling to treat people suffering from mild to moderate psychological symptoms, on an outpatient basis. He is currently the medical director of SOUTHCOAST Psychotherapy & Educational Associates, Inc. in Boca Raton, Florida. From 1992 to 1993, he was the director of research at Fair Oaks Hospital in Summit, New Jersey.

Dr.Cocores has been offering nutritional neuropsychiatric counseling since 1985, prompting him to author The 800-COCAINE Book of Drug and Alcohol Recovery (Villard, 1990). His work in addiction recovery informs his views on the reasons most people have difficulty learning, remembering, maintaining a stable mood, performing adequately, and losing and keeping off weight. It has also shown him how he can help patients reprogram their minds and bodies to deal with food in a self-fulfilling way.

He has had 25 years of combined formal training and clinical experience in geriatric, adult, adolescent, and child psychiatry, and his work has appeared in more than 60 publications. He has given over 300 educational lectures on the links between food and learning, mood and performance. He recently completed 57 Category One Continuing Medical Education credits in nutrition.
